Verizon turned on international roaming for me today!

Now, what else did I NOT have on my list of things to do?

Blessing Prayer for Someone About to Leave on a Journey

Written by Ed Hayes and adapted by my friend Liz Brannen for my travels

Blessed are You, Lord our God,
for You have created a wide and wonderful world
     in which we can travel.

We ask your blessing upon Lisa and Kathy
as they are about to leave on their great adventure.

May You, Holy Guide of Travelers,
     be their ever-near companion,
     spreading the road before them
     with beauty and adventure.

Free that road and airway from harm and evil,
     and send as their escorts
Your holy spirits, Your angelic messengers,
who accompanied the holy ones of days past.

On this journey, may they take with them
as part of their traveling equipment
     a heart wrapped in wonder
with which to rejoice in all they shall do and all those whom they shall meet.

May they read the invisible meanings
of the events of this journey --
     of possible disappointments and delays,
of possible breakdowns and rainy day troubles.

Always awake to Your Sacred presence
and to Your divine compassionate love,
they shall see in all that happens,
in the beautiful and the bad,
the mystery of your holy plan.

May the blessings of the Creator,
     the Redeemer,
     and the Holy Spirit
     be upon them throughout this trip;
may this same blessing shield them from all harm
and bring them home again in safety and in peace.

Let's start our anti-malarial drug on the same day so we can remind each other.

Mefloquine 250 mg once a week starting 1 week before trip and continuing until 4 weeks after return.  Take with food and plenty of water.

I thought I'd better share how I uploaded pics from my iPad.  In case I forget, I can always read the blog for instructions (hee hee).
  1. Use iCab (not Safari)
  2. Go to flickr.com and log in with Google email account and password.
  3. Click on "upload photos and video" link.
  4. Click on "Select File" button.
  5. Find the pic or pics on the iPad and select them.
  6. Add tags if desired.
  7. Choose the public privacy setting (so they can be added to the blog which is also public).
  8. Click the UPLOAD button.
Once the pics have been uploaded to flickr,
  1. Select the photo to be added to the blog.
  2. They can be emailed, added to Blogger or Facebook by selecting the appropriate button in the Actions field.
  3. Add a title and a comment in the dialogue box if desired
  4. Click the POST button
VoilĂ !

BTW, it is really too bad that Google and Apple can't play nicely in the sandbox. What a headache for those of us who enjoy a blend of these companies' fine products!

Only 28 more sleeps until the big day!

Success!

Finally! I am able to post pictures to the blog using my iPad. I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. Love the brand and the innovative approach to personal computing, but hate that they trap you into using only their stuff. One needs to be a total geek and know exactly how to circumvent - or suffer the consequences.

Well, how's this for frustrating... I am not taking my computer to Africa as it will be too heavy with all the camera equipment and such. So the iPad is the perfect solution, right? Ha! I learned today, when I tried to practice blogging on my iPad, that Safari (Apple's web browser, not our trip) doesn't allow uploading of images. Yikes! I've been on the web all morning trying to figure out what to do. I found the iCAB browser and that is what I am using to add this post. I will try to add an image and see what happens. No such luck. Back to the drawing board!
