on the coast of the Indian Ocean. We were greeted by a Zulu driver and spent the next
2 hours traveling by van to the game lodge.
It was dusk as we were arriving an the sun setting was spectacular!
As we meandered thorough the winding dirt road toward our destination, we
encountered nyalas, monkeys, giraffes, wildebeest, (and a cow). We didn't expect
to see all of this before we even checked in so our cameras were not quite ready.
Perhaps some pictures are in order for tomorrow??
The room was exactly as we expected -- rustic charm throughout. There was a
thatched roof, an elephant motif in the bath, and a large patio door and window that
overlooks the pool area with a picturesque landscape beyond. We face east, so we
are hoping to get some great pics of the sunrise in the morning. We were anxious to
explore, so we put off unpacking and set out to inspect the grounds. By this time, the
sun had set, and our conversation turn to what may be out lurking in the dark. You
know how it goes sometimes, when you start over-thinking, things start to get a little
creepy -- seed pods falling from trees suddenly look like snakes, and wind rustling the
trees sounds like lions approaching. Guess unpacking really was a better idea after all!
Later, we enjoyed a nice meal and some wine alongside other safari goers. Lisa,
being the brave food taster, sampled some smoked fish, an oyster, and something that
resembled a fig. Kathy stuck with things she recognized, but vowed to gain courage for
tomorrow's cuisine.
